Melaleuca Australia (Melaleuca) is a specialist organisation that supports humanitarian entrants, migrants and people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds of all ages, settling in the NT of Australia, through the provision of a suite of specialists services including Settlement Services, Family and Children Services, Health Support, Counselling and Youth services.

About the position
As a member of the Multicultural Client Services team, the Social Worker ensures the provision of high quality, settlement support to clients from humanitarian or culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds settling in the NNT. The role involves taking the lead in case management, linking clients to essential services, and working collaboratively internally and externally to ensure positive client outcomes.
The role works across several funded programs within Melaleuca included, but not limited to the Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP); Settlement and Engagement Transition Services (SETS); Family Support Services (FSS); and Reconnect.
Case Coordination and Service Delivery
- Establish and maintain professional relationship with clients using Trauma Informed Practice, Cultural Humility, and Client Centred frameworks.
- Comply with internal and contractual guidelines to coordinate all aspects of service to clients including Intake, Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Exit using nominated Melaleuca tools; and making appropriate internal and external referrals.
- Ensure the client remains central in case management planning by identifying their goals and working towards healing and autonomy with the support of Melaleuca and external linkages.
- Participate in internal and external Case Reviews to coordinate collaborative support.
- Plan, deliver and assess Orientation Modules with support of Director Learning and Development as required.
- Coordinate group activities to meet contractual requirements both as an individual; and in collaboration with colleagues.
- Provide leadership and guidance to Bicultural Support Workers. Melaleuca Volunteers, and students.
- Be part of an on-call system where on a rotating basis, responsibility is taken for one week.
- Develop strong collaborative networks to facilitate positive client outcomes including attendance to local and national network meetings; Settlement Service Network; Community of Practice; Government Department forums etc.
- Participate in community outreach to promote Melaleuca Services to community members and stakeholders.
- Participate in after-hours client events.
Administration and Reporting
- Utilise contracts and internal documents to be aware of Key Performance Indicators and monitor work activities to ensure timely progress is made to meet funded deliverables.
- Maintains accurate and timely record keeping in line with organisation standards across several platforms including HSP Portal; DEX Reporting; Community Database Solutions; and internal spreadsheets.
- In collaboration with Manager Settlement and Family Services, contribute to funding body reports.
- Escalate high risk clients and critical incidents to Senior Leadership Team to ensure effective strategies are deployed.
- Actively participates in regular formal supervision and Performance Reviews; as well as actively provide supervision to direct reports and students as required.
Organisational Maintenance

- Attend meetings, training, team building and other forums as required by the organisation.
- Work co-operatively as a member of the Melaleuca team. As well as respectfully with all clients and be mindful of the cultural and social influences that individuals and families may present

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR TRAINING
ESSENTIAL:
- Bachelor of Social Work – new graduates will be considered.
- Demonstrated skills in application of Case Management particularly facilitating complex services.
- Ability to work within a compliance framework.
- Ability to network, partner and maintain collaboration with external agents.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work autonomously (be self-motivated, flexible and demonstrate initiative) to meet funded targets.
- Be part of an on-call system, where on a rotating basis responsibility is taken for a week at a time during out of hours to respond to urgent client needs.
DESIRABLE:
- Knowledge and experience working with CaLD populations.
- Knowledge of local services.
- Experience using translating and interpreting services.
- Willingness and ability to supervise social work students.
LICENCES/CLEARANCES (Essential):
- Current First Aid Qualification
- Current Police Clearance
- Current valid NT Ochre Card (Working with Children clearance)
- Current valid Cass C driver’s licence
- Australian Citizenship, Residency Status or Visa allowing unrestricted work rights
