About the Opportunity
The objective of the Psychological Health Services (PHS) is to provide psychological assessment and intervention to prisoners for a broad range of presenting issues. There is a specific focus on suicide and self- harm risk assessment and crisis intervention. Psychological Health Services also provide other goal-directed, psychological interventions appropriate for a forensic population.

What you’ll be doing
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary care team to provide a high level of care for prisoners who are experiencing psychological distress and/or functional impairment.
- Completing comprehensive risk assessments and using these to develop appropriate treatment and management plans for people at risk of self-harm.
- Providing individual counselling and/or group therapy to prisoners with current psychological needs.
- Preparing accurate and defensible documentation including progress notes, formulations and treatment plans.
About you - your ideal skills & experience
- If applying as a psychologist: Bachelor’s degree in psychology (BPsych or BAPsych-Honours); OR Master's Degree in Psychology (Forensic, Clinical, Counselling); AND full registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Association (AHPRA).
- If applying as a Social Worker: Bachelor’s degree in social work; AND eligibility for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Solid understanding of evidence-based practices in the assessment and intervention of different psychological and behavioural presentations.
- Demonstrated experience in providing individual counselling, preferably within a correctional, welfare, or similar institutional environment.
- Proven ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver psychological services and programs.
- Exceptional report writing abilities, producing accurate and defensible documentation.
This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a federal police check as an essential selection component for this role.
