Are you interested in extending your knowledge in the area of speech pathology with a diverse caseload including complex disability medical dysphagia? Or are you someone who wants to focus on paediatric speech pathology and have some exposure to clients across the life span.
We are a reputable practice which offers assessment and therapy to children, adolescents and adults. We currently have a position due to a growing need for our services. The great this is that YOU chose the caseload, adult, paed or mixed caseload. There is support and mentorship within this role on a regular including daily basis. We realize that that is rare.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, willing to learn on the job and whilst experience (2-3 years) is preferred, new graduates are welcome to apply. We require a friendly, fun, self motivated independent Speech Pathologist who is also a respectful team player. We are interested in someone who wants to contribute to the practice, clients and the families we work with to support our client goals. As a practice we believe in setting realistic work goals and realistic billable hours.
About the Practice
Communicate Connect Speech Pathology is a practice which thrives itself on its reputation and on the relationships we establish with people, our clients and the families we support. We service the Lake Macquarie/Newcastle areas, Maitland and Central Coast areas.
The Principal Speech Pathologist has over 27 years experience, graduated from Newcastle University in 1997 and is highly experienced in working in private practice (over 20 years). The owner is highly experienced in educational speech pathology, literacy, paediatric speech and language delays and disorders, autism (has owned an autism clinic), disability, dysphagia including complex dysphagia, complex communication needs, AAC, paediatric and adult disability. She has owned and operated a large reputable group speech pathology practice with a multi-disciplinary focus in Sydney for over 10 years.
The best things about working with this practice is the variety and flexibility we have to offer. One of the differences about our clinic is that we offer a balance between mobile services and in clinic sessions with our renovated clinic with professional rooms, set up for our paediatric and adult clientele. We have two reception staff. Our mixed caseloads and the multiple settings in which we work ensure you are constantly being provided with opportunities to learn and develop your skill base. Our sessions occur across varied settings including working in the clinic, performing home visits, attending a session at a day program and school visits. What makes us unique is that we look holistically at the client, their needs and work as a team to ensure the client's goals are met.
We have a large adult dysphagia caseload and a growing paediatric caseload. We are experienced in the assessment and management of complex dysphagia in adolescents and adults. We have completed a large government contract to assess and create meal plans for adults with intellectual disability to support their transition into new accommodation settings.
You will be provided with;

Position Responsibilities;
In the position, you will be responsible for;
- Assessment and provision of therapy for children, adolescents and adults in the areas of speech, language, literacy, fluency, delays/disorders and/or swallowing difficulties
- Service delivery including individual therapy in the clinic or at home/school based, programming, resource development and education to the wider community if required
- Working with a professional level of service with a commitment to evidenced based practice and continued professional development
- Documenting goals, progress notes, reports, paperwork in a timely manner
- Adhering to our policies and procedures as part of our individual audit process
- Participate in team meetings and case discussions
- You may be required to manage your own diary from time to time
Essential Criteria;
- Bachelor of Speech Pathology (or equivalent)
- Current membership of SPA
- Honest, Fun, Professional and Reliable Team Player
- Highly motivated to achieve positive outcomes for our clients
- Current drivers licence and own car to travel as is required
- Show initiative
- Excellent time management skills with progress notes written on the day the client is seen
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Ability to use a computer, our online practice management software
- Ability to work independently
- Professional and empathetic approach
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build rapport quickly with clients, families and professionals
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Excellent Organisational and Time Management Skills
- Proficiency in the use of key word signing and other AAC systems is considered favorable.
