HNELHD invites applications from suitable candidates for an exciting opportunity to provide care for children and their families within HNEKidshealth Community Partnerships and Integrated Services, based in Newcastle . There is the opportunity to combine different components in a fractional capacity of the roles outlined below.
The first component (0.8 FTE temporary until June 2025) is the opportunity to working in the tertiary specialist Child Protection Team at John Hunter Children’s Hospital as an early career paediatric consultant. This position will provide both general and forensic medical assessments, consultation, and clinical management of children and young people referred to the Child Protection/Sexual Assault Service. You will additionally participate in the on-call roster for the Child Protection and Child Sexual Assault services, as well as the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Clinical Advice Line (CASACAL). The purpose of this position is exposure to tertiary Child Protection work for specialist medical officers to further enhance skills and knowledge.
The second component (0.5-0.6 temporary FTE from March to September 2024) is with HNEkidsHealth Child Development Team, based at Wallsend, as a Staff Specialist Paediatrician where you will be responsible for providing paediatric outpatient assessment and clinical management of children with developmental and behavioural challenges. The service is based in Wallsend, and will provide outreach services to regional sites of particular need. You will additionally participate in the after-hours on-call roster for the Child Protection and Child Sexual Assault services, as well as the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Clinical Advice Line (CASACAL).
The third component (0.4 FTE temporary for 12 months) is the opportunity to working in the tertiary specialist Child Protection Team at John Hunter Children’s Hospital. This position will provide both general and forensic medical assessments, consultation, and clinical management of children and young people referred to the Child Protection/Sexual Assault Service. It may involve providing paediatric outpatient assessment and clinical management of children with developmental and behavioural challenges. You will additionally participate in the on-call roster for the Child Protection and Child Sexual Assault services, as well as the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Clinical Advice Line (CASACAL).
Ideal candidates will:
- Hold a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the RACP, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
- Have demonstrated recent and comprehensive experience in development and behavioural paediatrics, including Community Paediatric clinical practice in both acute and ambulatory services
- Community Child Health training would be beneficial but is not essential
