Job description

Lead the successful implementation of the RSPCA NSW Volunteer Program. Support, lead, and grow our volunteers capabilities to ensure optimal results.

As the State Volunteer Manager your primary responsibility is to oversee the successful implementation of the volunteer program. You will be responsible for the leadership and development of the volunteering staff as well as working closely with the Senior Manager Branches and Volunteers on the delivery of all strategic initiatives and annual business plans.
You will also be supporting all internal departments, leading change management activities aimed at fostering an organisational culture that strengthens, empowers, and grows our volunteer network across New South Wales. Your role will be pivotal in aligning volunteer efforts with the broader organisational goals and strategies.

About the Opportunity
  • Take a lead role in executing the volunteering strategy for FY 24-26, aligning it with the broader organisational strategic plan
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the strategy, making adjustments as needed to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Lead, nurture and develop your team, support them to grow and build their skills and capabilities
  • Regularly assess the performance of volunteer coordinators against established KPI’S, ensuring that volunteer coordination practices align with established quality standards and best practice
  • Provide constructive feedback to volunteer coordinators and offer coaching and support to help them overcome challenges and enhance their effectiveness
  • Support and collaborate with internal departments to grow and enhance the utilisation and integration of volunteer activities into the overall organisational framework
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on the performance of volunteer coordinators, highlighting achievements and addressing any areas of improvement
  • Assist in the development of action plans to address areas where improvement is needed
  • Where training needs are identified, support the planning and delivery of training activities designed to uplift capability and embed change
  • Continued implementation of a stakeholder engagement plan

About You
A Volunteer Manager is a crucial role that requires a combination of interpersonal, organisational, and leadership skills. While formal qualifications can be beneficial, experience and attributes often play a significant role in the success of a Volunteer Manager.
Essentially, you will demonstrate:
  • Formal qualification in Volunteer Management, Human Resources or relevant managing change and training disciplines, desired
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence
  • Previous experience as a Volunteer Manager, minimum two years
  • Experience in leading and implementing successful change management initiatives
  • Significant leadership experience with resource, budget and people management to achieve quality outcomes
  • Proven capability for strategic and operational analysis, planning and decision-making
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing a broad range of responsibilities and complex issues
  • Experience in facilitating meetings, conduct effective consultations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of change management principles and methodologies
  • High sensitivity to reputational risk
  • Conflict resolution, mediation and problem-solving skills
  • An ability to deliver exceptional results, on time and within budget to meet identified program requirements
  • Clear communication skills, able to clearly and convincingly influence outcomes across all management levels
  • Outstanding influencing and stakeholder management skills, with proven success in partnering with all levels of the business
  • The ability to flex between the strategic and tactical effortlessly
