About the role:

At Progress Rail, the Strategic Planner is responsible for building and publishing a rolling 3 year Business Plan that aligns with the business goals and market demand. Their focus is future work and they will liaise with Maintenance & Production Planning and Engineering to ensure lessons learned throughout execution are used to drive process improvement.

Reporting to the GM Strategic Planning, this is a national role and will require liaising with multiple facilities, spread across Australia.

Planning is the process of setting up a work plan ready for scheduling. These plans include the "What", "Why" and "How", the scheduler then assigns the "When" and "Who". The aim of the Planner role is to facilitate the success of execution by ensuring they have all required materials, resources, and equipment to execute demand.

This includes:

  • Being accountable for product line governance and long term production and maintenance planning, including development and approval of sales and inventory forecasts and planned maintenance schedules.
  • Developing and monitoring execution of rolling 3 year plan to meet demand and drive productivity improvements, while balancing capacity and resource restrictions.
  • Accountable for governance surrounding core management and driving business improvement through review of performance trends
  • Forecast fallout and variation requirements and set appropriate Safety Stock levels to ensure coverage
  • Work with inventory optimization to perform regular safety stock reviews and ensure core pool sizes are adequate for demand
  • Contribute to development and implementation of business processes and frameworks
  • Contribute to development and tracking of revenue forecasting (at 12-36 month horizon)
  • Liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders across multiple levels of the organisation to ensure all internal and external demand is captured and requirements for each are fully scoped and defined
  • Ensure accuracy of Routes (Task Lists) and BOMs (Parts list) in liaison with Maintenance and Production Planning and Engineering by assessing planned vs actuals and execution team performance
  • Drive a positive culture amongst work groups and enact continuous improvement and enhancement of production and maintenance processes to increase efficiency and throughput
  • Contribute to key planning, productivity and cost related improvement initiatives and adhere to planning processes and frameworks

Qualifications & Training for the role:

  • Trade qualification or tertiary training in a relevant field is highly desirable
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Engineering or Asset Lifecycle Management is desirable
  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma training is advantageous

About you:

  • Proven experience in a similar position for 3+ years
  • Proven experience in maintenance, engineering or production roles, ideally with leadership/supervisory duties
  • Significant MRP/ERP/CMMS and Production or Maintenance systems knowledge is a must (SAP, Epicor, Maximo, Oracle, AX, Dynamics etc)
  • Experience in rail, aviation, oil and gas, mining or minerals processing industries highly desirable but proven experience in heavy industry is crucial
  • Demonstrated rail industry knowledge, including regulations, rail operator parameters and SHE requirements is highly advantageous
  • Experience in use of Microsoft Excel is essential
  • Exposure to QA/QC and Engineering systems and procedures is highly advantageous.
