Harrisdale Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Student Support Coordinator (SSC) to join their team.
As the SSC, you will lead programs tailored for Senior School students, collaborating with educators, parents, and external partners to ensure a holistic and supportive learning environment. Working alongside the Student Services team, your primary focus should be supporting the attendance, behavioural, academic and social/emotional developmental needs of students, identifying and resolving barriers to educational engagement to facilitate improved academic achievement. You will support the implementation of a social and emotional wellbeing program for students across all pathways.
The successful applicant should possess strong interpersonal skills, contributing positively to the school's collaborative culture, vision, and strategic direction. The successful applicant should be culturally responsive, committed, well-organised, and possess strong emotional intelligence. The successful applicant will ideally establish and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with the school community, ensuring all students’ needs are met.
By building a culture of trust and collaboration, you will encourage staff and student feedback to contribute to decision-making.
As SSC you will provide guidance across the School in relation to pastoral care and social and emotional learning, crisis management and support the organising and/or facilitating of the School’s ’s intervention programs
Harrisdale SHS is one of the largest schools in Western Australia, with a student population of over 2000 and approximately 200 teaching staff and 100 support staff. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Well-developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area;
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
