About this part of our organisation:
Our Zinc Assets in Australia include multiple & geographically dispersed operations, including underground and open pit mines, processing plants and port facilities. Our George Fisher Mine (GFM) is a world class and long life underground operation located approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Mount Isa. GFM is large and diversely technically challenging and innovative operation. Whilst our preference is for the role to be based residentially in Mount Isa, we may consider FIFO.
Mount Isa is one of the better facilitated mining towns around the country. With a local community of around 20,000 residents there are multiple choices of schools, supermarkets, and a variety of leisure activities. From arts and culture to a thriving sporting community and more, it is the central hub for the surrounding area housing key government services for the region and hosting events such as the largest rodeo in the southern hemisphere.
About your potential new position:
Your primary purpose will be to provide leadership to your Geotechnical team supplying technical support to the mining operations with goal being to deliver safe, economic and practical geotechnical solutions and operational improvement.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Leadership and development of your team’s professional capability.
Working closely with your peers in planning and operations to supply geotechnical advice and solutions for our operation.
Oversight of your teams technical activities such as collection, analysis and evaluation of geotechnical data, ground control designs, testing and analysis of seismic activity in relation to mining, etc…
Effective management of geotechnical projects
Overall, this is a mix of technical advice, project work and leadership. You will be well supported with several well respected geotechnical leaders in your reporting line and in our corporate office who can continue to develop you further too professionally and personally.
