About the role
The Superintendent Port Kembla will lead, manage and direct a group of Supervisors while also having overall responsibility for management of the frontline employees, including train crew, along with labour hire and contractors involved in the in the day-to-day operations of rail haulage activities. A key focus will be driving the mixed commodities change across the region whilst maintaining an environment that fosters a high performing and engaged team who work together to safely deliver the customer plan
This position is required to bring a safety-first approach to developing the Operations team to deliver on business objectives safely and efficiently with a high priority on customer service delivery.
The key result areas will centre around Safety, People, Operational efficiency, and Customers with duties including but not limited to:
- Providing clear, effective leadership in all aspects of safety by proactively communicating and enforcing safety values
- Actively engaging in the workplace, providing visible safety leadership, promoting safe behaviours and practices and promoting strong risk awareness and engaging employees in safety improvement.
- Managing operations in a way which ensures that the agreed standard of safety, profit, customer service and operational performance targets are achieved, accurately measured and reported on, in line with overall business objectives.
- Meeting expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
- Identifying, developing and implementing, productivity and cost improvement opportunities for the utilisation of PN's assets in order to optimise return on investment whilst continuing to deliver high quality customer service.
- Managing, coaching and mentoring Supervisors and identifying and supporting talented drivers to reach their full potential as well as maximising engagement and alignment to objectives, values and goals
You will have a proactive and continuous improvement approach with demonstrated leadership capability managing teams in a complex logistics environment. You will have strong communication skills with experience developing senior internal and external stakeholder relationships with the ability to influence outcomes. Working closely with customers will form part of your role, experience managing contracts and strong negotiation skills to achieve commercial outcomes will be essential.
