Fortescue's Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

Roster: 8D/6R 7N/7R - FIFO ex Perth (12 Month fixed term contract)
Fortescue operates one of the largest fleets of autonomous trucks in the world while continuing to expand autonomous operations to other mining operations. This role reports to the Superintendent Technology, the position is a key role in Fortescue's Technology Operations Department, responsible for providing support, system planning and troubleshooting for the mine communication infrastructure. The role is part of a team that provides critical support in planning, operating, diagnosis of, and repair of communication systems hardware to maximise the system availability for mining operational technology.
The site Technology team plays a crucial part in Fortescue meeting the stated production targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure mine operations as safe, efficient, and cost effective as possible and that the operational availability of the Operational technology (OT) systems are held at maximum potential.
- Manage day-to-day technology services to expected service levels. In-line with daily, weekly and monthly mine plans. Report performance on a weekly/monthly basis utilising the associated systems and tools.
- Always seeking new, better and simpler ways of working to bring efficiencies and cost savings to operations, creating value for Fortescue operations.
- Monitor the wireless communication system performance and integrity of the communication infrastructure actively seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Analyse equipment failures trends and recommend replacement equipment and components.
- Provide technical advice and support to other teams and departments on communication equipment used within the mine site.
- Monitor signal strengths of wireless communications used throughout the Active mining areas.
- Relocation of mobile access points as required to ensure radio coverage across all mining areas.
- Maintain the integrity of fleet map including Tetra database utilised for the Tetra Digital radio system.
- Conduct project work as required and defined by SAP maintenance plans.
- Responsible for the roster for coverage of Level 1 & 2 support of faults pertaining to FMS, Wi-Fi, CCTV in-pit, Autonomous drilling and Tetra radio networks.
- Liaison point for the mining and process control operators both locally at site and remotely in the Hive.
- Technical input in assisting with system planning for Mine communication infrastructure, specifically Tetra radio systems and the wireless network used by the FMS.
- Provide technical advice and support to other teams and departments on communications equipment in use at the mine.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 5+ years relevant experience in an operations leadership role.
- Cert IV in communications or electrical trade as a minimum.
- C Class manual drivers licence - essential.
- Working at heights and Elevated Work Platform certification highly desirable.
- Previous experience with Minestar Fleet Management Systems and tetra Digital Radio systems highly regarded.
- STEM Degree highly regarded.
- Experience in industrial wireless communications infrastructure (Cisco Mesh, Microwave PTP/PMP, fibre optics) essential.
- Experience in safety and safe systems of work within mining.
- Experience working with wireless networks and/or radio systems, fleet management systems and RF communication systems.
- Experience with LTE networks would be advantageous.
- Proficient level of computer skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Experience of fault finding on systems/networks.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Ability to diagnose and repair hardware components, including the exchange of installed components and repair of cable terminations.
- Ability to read and follow schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Perform physical maintenance to mining systems hardware and communications infrastructure.
