St Barts is a Western Australian not-for-profit organisation founded in 1963 as a small homeless shelter for men. For nearly 60 years, we have been standing by the side of vulnerable Western Australians experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma and hardship. Since our foundation, we have evolved into a larger organisation that provides progressive, person-cantered and trauma-informed recovery support to people in need, regardless of background, age, gender or ethnicity.

About the roleOur Care Finders program assists people in the Metropolitan area to access appropriate long-term accommodation and support and is specifically tailored to help those who are over 50 years of age and low income, over 45 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, living in insecure housing and experiencing homelessness.
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Support Officer works with the Care Finders team to provide support to vulnerable older people who do not have family or friends who can provide that intensive support. We also support older people who are living in insecure housing, homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will be responsible in offering face-to face support and referrals into aged care, housing and community services, supporting continued engagement and connection to services. You will also support with My Aged Care assessment applications and then linking program participants with the most appropriate range of accommodation and care services.

Taking into consideration the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful applicant the salary offered for this position spans from $71,136 to $76,273plus superannuation.
About youTo be successful in this role you will need a tertiary qualification in Community Services, Aged Care or a similar discipline together with demonstrated work experience.
In addition, our ideal candidate has:
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with a diverse consumer group
- Knowledge and understanding of the impact of homelessness and knowledge of the housing sector
- The ability to advocate on behalf of consumers
