About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled disability Support worker to join a team of people supporting a 38-year-old man who lives with Level Three Autism Spectrum Disorder and Epilepsy in Preston, Melbourne.
Through understanding the needs, preferences, required support dynamics and nuances of the individual, a stable and predictable support environment has been created. The successful applicant will be eager to join the team and contribute to a culture of best practice that has been fostered for many years.
The team has supervision from Positive Behaviour Support, Occupational Therapy and an involved and caring family. Some existing workers in the team have been with this man for 10 years.
Common duties will involve supporting the individual to:
- Engage in personal care activities
- Plan for activities throughout the week
- Manage their state and engage in positive behaviours
- Complete domestic activities
- Access the community as part of a routine
- Provide support to manage seizures (managed well with medications and infrequent).
Successful applicants will:
- Be calm, relaxed and patient as progress can sometimes be slow.
- Be consistent in the way you deliver supports and be able to maintain structure and predictability in the weekly routine.
- Be able to take direction from a Lead Support worker or Allied Health team.
- Be familiar with the use of social stories and communication aides and technology, or be willing to receive training.
- Have some experience in supporting people with BOC (Behaviours of Concern)
- Have experience with ASD individuals.
- Person needs to have or receive training for epilepsy management and response strategies.
- At present this man’s main activities include attending automotive shows in the community and communicating with family.
Days and hours of support needed:
The minimum weekly shift will be 10 hours, with the potential for additional hours, including overnight stays, evening shifts, and weekends.
Note: Must have a driver’s license, own car preferred.

Salary:
The initial salary commences at Level 2 Pay Point 1, $36.00 per hour. Casual staff members receive a 25% loading on top of this rate ($45.00 per hour).
