About the Role
Having experience in supporting participants with intellectual disability would be highly regarded, however being caring, patient and willing to learn is essential. You should be able to build rapport, find common ground and develop a connection with participants who have difficulty with communication.
You will be assisting clients with personal care, meals and general daily activities and routine around the home.
Position Responsibilities
- Assistance with daily living tasks such as personal care, preparation of meals and other general household tasks.
- Respond to the participant's needs and collaborate positively with their families, support people and others in their lives.
- Assist with the participant’s daily activities and routines
- Ensure all necessary documentation is complete and accurate
- Promote independence, give choice, encourage inclusiveness and respect the rights and privacy of an individual with a disability through planning and creating opportunities.
- Work within the NDIS Code of Conduct
- Work with the care team to ensure quality and continuity of care
- Provide Community Participation to residents by providing transport, assisting them on social outings, shopping, budgeting etc
- Be proactive to continually educate yourself on the specific needs of participants and conditions.
You will need to have:
- The right to work in Australia and satisfy relevant legislation checks including vaccinations;
- National Disability Worker Screening Clearance
- Relevant work experience (desired but not essential) or strong willingness and commitment to learn;
- Current first aid and CPR certificate
- Current Drivers Licence with a clean and tidy reliable car with full comprehensive car insurance
- A strong work ethic, a positive outlook and the ability to remain calm and professional while under pressure
- A caring and empathetic nature
- Complete all NDIS worker orientation modules
- commitment to up-skilling and continuous training
Desirable but not essential
- a Disability, Individual Support or Aged Care Qualification or certificate in Teachers Aid, childcare
- If you are studying nursing or education you may also like to apply as many skills are transferable.
Shifts
Have the capacity to work flexible hours on a roster system, including weekends, day and night shift with inactive overnight sleepovers.
Rate of Pay
Freedom Living Australia's pay is based on the Award Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 based on your qualifications and experience.
