Are you an inspiring educator that can make a significant difference to Design & Technology students throughout western Australia and see the bigger picture of the future of delivering practical subjects?
Would you like the opportunity to influence and support the learning outcomes for students across Western Australia through our blended learning approach?
If you answered yes to these questions, this could be the role for you!
The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking to establish a pool of vibrant, innovative, and culturally responsive Design and Technology Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
SIDE is currently delivering an exciting program of Design and Technology woodwork and technologies to remote and regional schools using digital web-conferencing technology. The students participate in lessons in the workshop at their school with the support of locally based staff and interact with the SIDE teacher via a video link. We wish to expand our team of Design and Technology teachers to deliver the courses to additional schools.
SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and additional workshop spaces at Churchlands Senior High School and Northlake Senior Campus. Teachers based in the metropolitan area may be required to work at any of these or future metropolitan venues. Teachers based in regional areas may be considered where access can be arranged to a workshop that meets Department requirements. Therefore, suitably qualified and experienced Design and Technology teachers who wish to remain based in regional areas are also encouraged to apply.
For this innovative role, we are seeking teachers with excellent pedagogy and classroom practice and a desire to contribute to improving outcomes for students in regional and remote Western Australia. You will ideally have strong communication skills and ability to work within a dynamic team environment, combined with a desire to learn or build on your capacity to deliver online lessons. The evolving nature of the program requires cohesion and collaboration with team members and flexibility in teaching approaches to ensure ongoing program growth and success for students.
Suitable applicants should have experience in delivering engaging Design and Technology courses in the woodwork and automotive context. A high level of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) literacy is also essential for this role. The ability to troubleshoot and maintain workshop equipment is highly desirable. Suitable applicants will ideally have a strong understanding of workplace safety and the demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and set up a workshop to meet stringent Occupational Health and Safety standards.
This role will involve travel around Western Australia, including regional and remote locations and overnight stays. A degree of flexibility and the ability to effectively plan and prioritise to balance the requirements of the role will be essential. A Western Australian driver's license is essential.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.
Applications will be assessed against these domains. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.
Applicants currently completing the Department of Education Leap program (formerly known as the Switch program) can apply for vacancies using their current or Leap qualification - even if they have not completed the program at the time of applying. Applicants may be appointed to a vacancy based on the qualification being completed via the Leap program.
The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
