Southern River College (SRC) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Design and Technology Teacher to join their dedicated team.

The successful applicant ideally will have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated.

The successful applicant should be able to teach a range of courses in the variety of Design & Technology contexts, including vocational courses and senior secondary level courses plus the ability to teach in multiple contexts offered wood, metal and engineering (mechatronics) & digital technologies.

The successful applicant should be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment, as well as displaying an engaging and energetic teaching style. You should reflect and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice using a variety of methods available, promote an environment of active and positive learning, and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience in a wide range of teaching models and differentiating the curriculum. Adopting inclusive practices, building positive relationships with students, staff and the community are important components of the role. Excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and the capacity to teach students of varying ability levels across Year 7 - 12 in a highly engaging manner, with strong knowledge and experience in teaching Certificate Courses and Engineering Studies being highly regarded.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience, understanding and technical skills to teach specific contexts within the existing Western Australian curriculum in Design and Technology. Importantly, they should be enthusiastic adopters of a school wide pedagogy based on direct, explicit instruction who are keen to work collaboratively with colleagues.

As a Design and Technology teacher you will participate as an integral member of the learning area and be responsible for supporting the collaborative approach to curriculum planning and learning programs.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
