This is a permanent part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2024

John Tonkin College is seeking a student orientated and enthusiastic Design and Technology Teacher to join their exceptional team. This person will employ excellent interpersonal skills and be capable of providing high quality learning experiences for all students from Year 7 to Year 12.

To be successful in this role you will possess a strong understanding of Western Australian curriculum and Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses within the Design and Technology learning area The capacity to also teach Home Economics would be ideal.

The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to implement highly engaging programs, lessons and effective classroom management. Effective collaboration with others and exceptional interpersonal skills will be highly regarded.

This role focuses on instilling in students an appreciation of the design process and developing their skills and pride in the use of tools and machines in bringing those designs to fruition using a variety of materials. The successful applicant should exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills, working as a member of a vibrant and enthusiastic school team. 

John Tonkin College, centrally located in the City of Mandurah, heralds a new era for public education in Mandurah and provides outstanding opportunities for secondary students. The college offers a broad choice of courses and programs for Year 7 to Year 12 students in the Peel region as well as the southern metropolitan corridor.

This is a highly specialised role. In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
