This is a three (3) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024 with possible extension and/or permanency

The successful applicant will be teaching Science in the lower secondary years (7 to 10) in addition to teaching a combination of General and/or Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) level courses for Year 11 and 12 students. Ideally, the successfil applicans will have public school experience and secondary qualifications. The role would suit applicants who are highly organised and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Teachers who can create a learning environment that is differentiated, challenging, caring, and creative and that caters for the range of needs so all students may achieve and progress are strongly encouraged to apply. Thornlie Senior High School (SHS) has a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) focus with a strong STEM strategic plan. Applications are sought from teachers who possess the ability to support and promote this plan.

The successful applicant should have the ability to work collaboratively to plan and implement effective teaching and learning plans. They should provide excellence in creating and maintaining supportive and safe learning environments and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential. With effective interpersonal skills, the successful applicant should work closely with students, colleagues, and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
