About the opportunity

As part of the Victorian Mental Health reforms, the Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals program has been established to provide integrated clinical care and wellbeing support to participants and their family members and/or carers.

Latrobe Regional Health, Wellways and Gippsland Lakes Complete Health will be working together to provide an easy way to access care and support for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health concerns – including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug support and care needs and their family, carers, and supporters.

This is a new way of doing things and creates an amazing opportunity to drive much-needed mental health improvements for our communities.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals program is free, voluntary, and easy to access, with no referral required. Importantly, these new services will be delivered on the basis of ‘how can we help? and a ‘no wrong door’ approach, focused on giving choice and control over how the participant wants to receive support.

About the role

The Build & Bridge Team Leader is responsible for the leadership and management of the Build & Bridge team, whilst supporting them in their goal to promote the East Gippsland Mental Health and Wellbeing Local program.

A key component of this role is to establish relationships, working with hard-to-reach community members, hidden cohorts and support people who are unable to access services via the central hub in an outreach setting.

This role will identify and facilitate opportunities that promote the inclusion of, and build the capacity of, people and community groups to access local services and achieve healthy, strong and connected communities.

About you

You will be a skilled people leader with experience in effectively leading teams and building a consumer and community led, inclusive, and values driven culture.

You will also need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health discipline including; Social Work, Counselling, Mental Health, Nursing, Psychology or related discipline
  • Relevant professional registration
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in mental health, community services or related sector, including individual and community development work
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and motivate employees
  • Proven ability to embed lived experience across models of care
  • Thorough understanding of mental health recovery and evidence based, best practice supports that enable people to sustain their social and emotional wellbeing enhance their own wellbeing and identity
  • Demonstrated knowledge of family and caring roles and the impact on carers health and wellbeing to determine support requirements
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing empowering and supportive partnerships with communities and a broad range of services in the community
  • A commitment to person centred practice and maximising the opportunities and support for people with a mental illness or psychological distress within their local communities
