A little bit about the role
The Team LeaderLocal Laws and Animal Management is a multi-disciplined leader situated in Council’s Civic Services department. Our purpose is to serve our community by protecting the health, safety amenity and assets of the City of Boroondara.
This role is an important leadership pillar within the department and will be exposed to wider directorate and organisational challenges. The role:
- Provides leadership, mentoring, coaching and direction to the Local Laws and Animal Management Team, along with development of performance goals and managing staff performance
- Ensures a highly responsive and proactive regulatory service is delivered to the community, providing technical support and advice to the team
- Manages operational delivery of Council’s Local Laws and Animal Management services, in line with team plans and department objectives and prepares service plans to manage team service, delivery and workload
- Develops and implements proactive strategies to reduce non-compliance in the community through education, issuing of notices and taking enforcement action including prosecution
- Leads by example and drives high standards of investigative practices and case management by Authorised Officers to ensure an effective, fair and equitable application of the law is applied
- Ensures a consistent, timely approach to delivering high quality and value-adding service to customers
- Identifies and develops continuous improvement opportunities including development of team compliance processes and practices
A little bit about you
To succeed in this role you will bring:
- The ability to bring people together, motivate and inspire teams to achieve and work together to be successful
- Strong demonstrated experience leading teams within a multidisciplinary team environment including but not limited to performance management, mentoring, training, workforce planning and leading through change
- Proven technical experience leading by example and delivering alongside teams in a demanding compliance service industry environment, including interpretation of legislation
- Substantial experience in conducting investigations, instigating appropriate enforcement action, preparing investigative reports, briefs of evidence, letters, general correspondence and presentations to management
- Strong communication both written and verbal with a variety of stakeholders to educate, advocate and resolve problems, including negotiation and persuasion skills
- Demonstrated highly developed time management skills with the ability to set priorities, plan and organise one’s own work and the work of team members to provide efficient service delivery within tight timeframes in a high-volume service environment
- A Certificate IV in Government Compliance, Diploma in Justice or equivalent and/or relevant experience in the relevant field of Local Law
