We also actively engage globally with Stantec Mine Closure and restoration experts, and locally with State Government regulators and researchers.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Provide technical leadership and support to the team and broader business.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Develop and co-ordinate technical studies to inform landform design, management of mine tailings, rehabilitation planning including analysis of soil or geochemical data.
  • Undertake site-visits to provide advice to our clients on geoscience and closure aspects, and rehabilitation planning.
  • Liaise with internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Prepare proposals, budgets, and tender documents tailored to client needs.
  • Prepare Mine Closure Plans, including critical review of feasibility of implementation.
  • Analyse ecological data, develop statistically robust closure criteria, and prepare clear, concise technical reports.
  • Expand your knowledge across various disciplines (terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecology, rehabilitation and remote sensing, and environmental approvals), to drive your career progression.

To be successful for this role you’ll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Soil Science or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 years professional experience directly relevant to the role, within an environmental consultancy or mining company.
  • Working knowledge of state-based closure standards and guidelines, and environmental legislation and policies (understanding of international standards also of benefit).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including highly developed technical reporting skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary studies for Mine Closure planning and related disciplines.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia with a current C class unrestricted (manual) Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to lead and work well within a high performing and successful team.
  • An interest in embracing innovation to continually improve the work we do.

What we offer:

Along with a competitive remuneration package commensurate with skills and experience, we offer a number of benefits to ensure ongoing professional development and wellbeing:

  • Ability to work with a highly experienced Group Lead and Technical Leader, both well-recognised in the industry.
  • Established, friendly local team comprising dedicated scientists with a range of expertise, working on exciting projects locally, across Australia and globally.
  • Part of a broader Environment and Geoscience Team with support across Australia, and the opportunity to diversify your skill set nationally and globally.
  • Penalty rates and time in lieu for extended field work in remote locations.
  • Learning and talent development programs - including global programs, online learning, and on-the-job learning.
  • Career development, with opportunities to expand your knowledge across various ecological disciplines, attend conferences and undertake training.
  • Opportunity to work in research and development, supporting innovative projects that are market leading and align with our core values.
  • Flexible work arrangements, including changes to patterns of hours worked, and opportunities to work from home.
  • Ability to purchase up to four weeks additional leave and provision for school term contracts.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) accessible to employees and their immediate family.
  • Social and professional clubs within Stantec to enhance connection, interactions and upskilling across Australia.
  • Access to bonus programs within the business.
  • Professional Registration and Memberships.
  • Salary Continuance Insurance (SCI).
  • Service Recognition Awards.
  • Employee Referral Benefits.
  • Consideration of relocation assistance for an experienced, interstate candidate
  • Full-time or part-time employment considered for the right candidate.
