The Opportunity
A highly organised and motivated leader to manage our Operational Compliance Team.
The Department of Transport (DoT) is the statutory authority for marine safety compliance and enforcement administration within the state of WA.
In this unique and exciting role, you will provide coordination and leadership for the operational requirements of the Compliance and Investigations Branch. You will oversee a dynamic team of dedicated Marine Officers ensuring a high standard of service to the community through quality, recruitment, induction, training, and coaching. You will also coordinate the control and command functions of large scale and high-profile aquatic events as well as assuming the role of Officer in Command for these events.
You will develop and deliver compliance and education operations and strategies. Additionally, this role coordinates the operations and maintenance of selected vessels and equipment.
To succeed in this role, you will be highly organised and experienced in maritime compliance, enforcement, education, investigations, and all associated legislation including the National Law for Commercial Vessels. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with stakeholders on all levels to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
You may be required to work shifts at any location within the State and you will be required to work as a part of the Investigations on call roster system.

About you
- Demonstrate substantial knowledge of Western Australian recreational boating, commercial marine charter industries and relevant legislation.
- Plan and coordinate marine compliance and education operations.
- Coordinate and command functions for large scale aquatic events.
- Identify problems and develop solutions whilst working under pressure in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.
- Build and foster a strong and positive team environment.
- Certificate of Competency (minimum unrestricted Coxswain or equivalent qualification under the Australian Maritime Safety Authority National System).
- Current National Police Clearance incorporating criminal and traffic convictions and infringements.
- Western Australian marine offence history check (This is an internally completed check).
- Current valid driver’s licence.
