The Humanitarian Settlement Program’s (HSP) primary purpose is to provide welcome, safety and security to clients under the program while ensuring they are linked with essential services and appropriate housing options to ensure a smooth transition to life in Australia.

Multicultural Australia has recently created new teams and ways of working which will provide for more tailored and client and community led services across our leading program for humanitarian settlement.   As part of this new way of working, we have openings for Team Leader – Specialist & Intensive Support within our experienced and supportive team. 

Team Leader – Specialist & Intensive Support play a critical role is providing comprehensive support to clients in line with their specific needs and circumstances.  You will conduct assessments, planning and support work to help people in their time of need. 

We’re looking for skilled and purpose driven team members who want to be part of a caring and supportive team delivering the most critical support to clients during their time of need. 

Your work will involve:

  • Collaborating with clients and their support networks to develop a comprehensive understanding of their circumstances, goals, and preferences.
  • Identify mental health risk factors, completing a mental health screen and ensuring appropriate referral of clients to specialised mental health supports.
  • Complete psychoscial needs assessment and develop Case Management plans to address individual and family needs. 
  • Provide leadership, accountability and responsibility for meeting contractual Key Performance Indicators for agreed time periods clients are receiving specialist services and ensure team activities comply with Multicultural Australia and program specific contractual, audit and service standard requirements.
  • Lead and support Complex Case Managers in delivery of comprehensive psycho-social assessments and interventions providing guidance and mentorship to ensure high quality service delivery.
  • Lead the coordination of services to address clients' complex or intensive needs and provide crisis intervention and stabilization support to clients experiencing acute mental health crises, domestic violence, homelessness, or other urgent situations.
  • Provide emotional support to clients applying culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice, using discretion to escalate to Team Leader where required.
  • Assist clients in building meaningful social relationships, such as ties with individuals of their culture, place of origin, or religious community, and offer cultural orientation and life skills development.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records to support excellent client support and claims. 
  • Participate in after-hours emergency roster and out of hours work when required.

What qualifications and skills do I need?

Qualifications, licences and probity

  1. Demonstrated attainment of a Bachelor level tertiary qualification in the field of Social Work, Psychology, Applied Social Sciences, Counselling or other relevant allied health discipline;
  2. Valid Queensland Driver’s License;
  3. Possession of, or willingness and eligibility to obtain a Blue Card Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Regulation 2020, and
  4. National Police Clearance Check.

Essential Skills / Experience 

  1. Proven psychosocial assessment and case management skills and the ability to design and implement culturally appropriate case coordination plans to enhance the settlement process within a team environment, as well as with housing providers and relevant government/community agencies and other external service providers;
  2. An excellent understanding and knowledge of issues, current practice and policies in relation to the support of asylum seekers and refugees as well children and young people living in out of home care arrangements and living in kinship care arrangements;

Desirable Skills / Experience

  1. Experience supervising or line managing a team of staff;
  2. Accredited in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention; and

Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s licence, police check and apply for a Working with Children Blue Card.
