The position of Technical Assistant – Molecular Plant Breeding, will be responsible for ensuring excellence in research and capability in managed environment facilities and in field trials. The role provides technical support for experiments and activities that apply to molecular plant breeding with specific relevance to forage species. The position will work closely with other (senior) technical officers to deliver the necessary project outputs. The role requires a focus on quality outputs and organisational skills, along with strong oral and written communication skills. The role will contribute towards a robust culture of performance and continuous improvement. The role will also assist in developing and creating a strong culture of innovation, collaboration, and science delivery. The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements, and undertake a wide variety of work across the division.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Experience in grazing and/or dairy industries.
- Experience in plant trial activities in glasshouse and/or field environments
- Understanding of plant (forage) trial activities under glasshouse and/or field environments
- Capability and/or experience in the safe and effective use of glasshouse building management systems
- Capability and/or experience in monitoring, collecting, recording and pre-processing plant data with sensor-based equipment and existing agricultural/geographical software
This is a fixed term position available for a period of 12 months. The work location for this position is Hamilton.
