About the role:
The main responsibilities of the Technical Assistant in the Emergency Department include technical tasks such as intravenous cannula insertion, venipuncture and pathology collection, recording of electrocardiographs, and general observations. Communication skills are paramount.
- Ensure iPIM data entry against mandatory time critical key performance indicators is entered in real-time for all technical procedures performed.
- Assist with escorting patients and family members into the dept., bed movements in the ED, and retrieval of patient records if required.
- Re-stocking of equipment supplies relevant to tasks performed, assistance with bed making, and cleaning as required.
- Assist with simple procedures conducted in the ED, such as plastering and application of splints.
- Initial education for the role includes training in technical tasks, followed by adequate supernumerary time with a mentor who is proficient in the role.
Where you'll be working:
Our Emergency Department is one of the busiest tertiary referral centres in Australia and the only trauma referral centre in NSW outside of Sydney.
Our specialist staff are focused on meeting the needs of acutely ill and injured patients, providing care for both adult and paediatric patients throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and Northern NSW.
Connected to the Emergency Department is an eight-bed short-stay unit for emergency patients requiring further observation and assessment.
