Since 2005, the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) has been one of Australia's leading marine research facilities. We support research through our university partners across all aspects of marine science, with a particular focus on marine conservation and restoration programs. Our diverse research programs range from restoring natural ecosystems in Sydney and other harbours around the world to deploying marine observing infrastructure that spans Australia and extends from the Indo-Pacific to the Macquarie Islands and Antarctica.

The RoleThe Technical Officer will be part of the SIMS Animal Tracking Facility (ATF), which operates significant national projects on behalf of the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS). More information about this program can be found at sims.org.au and imos.org.au.
Reporting to the Facility Manager of the ATF, the Technical Officer will support the day-to-day operations of the facility. This includes planning and executing complex fieldwork assignments and coordinating contractors for remote operations. This role is crucial for delivering high-quality programs to IMOS and the broader research community, which relies on critical data to enhance our understanding of animal movements in marine environments. Due to the field-based nature of the role, participation in operations in remote locations is required.
