The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is the emerging flagship campus of the Australian Institute of Botanical Science – home of the National Herbarium of New South Wales and the Australian PlantBank.
Our passionate and dedicated Plant Discovery & Evolution Research team are seeking a Technical Officer (ID Counter) to provide plant identification and botanical information to a range of stakeholders as part of the Botanical Identification Service within the Plant Discovery & Evolution Research Section of the Science, Education and Conservation Branch as well as taxonomic curation of selected herbarium collections.

About you
Your strong organisational skills will see you balancing your workload and priorities in a demanding and moving work environment. Within the team you can work independently under supervision, be mentored in developing and improving plant identification skill sets, and enjoy engaging with staff and Industry Professionals.
Key knowledge and experience
• Experience in basic plant identification and familiarity with botanical terms; and basic knowledge of the flora of New South Wales.
• Ability to research botanical problems using diverse resources including literature and the internet.
• Experience in the use of specimen collection database systems and customer databases.
Essential requirements
- Relevant TAFE qualifications or equivalent with training in plant taxonomy and/or ecology.
- Current driver licence
