Overview:Full-time, Continuing position Salary HEW 6 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working ArrangementsBased at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the UniversityAbout YouAs the Technical Officer, Physics (Optics), you will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the day-to-day operational functions of the STEM Physics and Engineering optical laboratories and workspaces, while providing expert support and advice to teaching and research activities.You will provide expert advice to users of the spaces and ensure designated areas are operating effectively and safely in compliance with legislative requirements and RMIT policies and procedures.You may be required to coordinate operations in one or more spaces.To be successful in this position, you will have as a minimum:Experience and knowledge in the routine operation, maintenance, and training for various forms of equipment and or instrumentation related to optics, lasers and laser safety, photonics, fluorescence/confocal microscopy and general laboratory equipment.Proven knowledge and experience working within a Physics and/or Engineering Optical laboratory setting.Proven laboratory operations and maintenance experience, preferably in a teaching or research environment.Demonstrated understanding of current OH&S legislation with knowledge of other field or industry regulations or standards related to the field within the scope of the service area.Proven initiative and problem-solving skills, highly organised, and the ability to work autonomously and in a team.Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.About the CollegeSTEM College holds a leading position and expertise in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and health (STEM) fields.
