Optus Satellite is currently expanding our fleet of geostationary communications satellites with the procurement of multiple spacecraft. Our amazing team performs the maintenance, enhancement, expansion and upgrade of Optus infrastructure to operate our new and existing Spacecraft.
Based at our Satellite Facility in Belrose you will become an expert in a range of software systems associated with the Optus and Customer Owned TT&C environment. Having a wide variety of operational systems, platforms and third-party packages used by the software systems you will have the ability to work in an environment requiring the acquisition and maintenance of detailed knowledge of multiple systems, as well as obtaining an in-depth understanding of the functionality of these systems necessary to troubleshoot and resolve application or infrastructure issues.
Reporting to the Principal Technical Specialist, Satellite Support you will have the chance to capitalise on your previous experience and to apply your knowledge to make a technical contribution to this unique environment. You will ensure a smooth and effective operation of new and existing systems and round the clock availability of the systems.

You will collaborate closely with the Support and Operations teams, using your existing skills and developing new ones, to take part in:
- the expansion and upgrade of computer systems to accommodate new spacecraft
- analysis of existing application protocols and software tools. Design and develop new applications that support system operation and spacecraft operations. Research, implement and test new developments required for the project including new hardware, operating system and functionality.
- designing, implementing and supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows multiple domain environments for development and production for the software applications.
- upgrading of provisioning and management tools for configuration control, server deployment and introduce new automation tools such as Ansible;
- evaluating, identifying, designing, installing and supporting new virtualisation technologies in development and production environments.
- developing procedures, tools, and capability to ensure that the computer systems environment is properly managed and monitored.
- providing ongoing first and second level system support, resolving technical queries, and communicating solutions directly to customers
- applying support skills and technical knowledge to triage, diagnose, troubleshoot, and escalate or resolve user system issues.
- Degree in Computer Science or related technologies or equivalent experience
- Moderate experience the Linux or Windows or both
- System engineer certification or some equivalent training in Red Hat or Windows or both is desirable.
- Preferable to have some experience working in an operational environment in which mission critical software application support and development of tools was a focus.
- Some experience in establishing and tuning virtualised environments such as VMware;
- Some experience in the Solaris operating systems is desirable.
- Some sxperience in software configuration control and software release systems is desirable.
- Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as PowerShell, Perl Python and C++;
- Ability to gain an Australian Department of Defence NV-1 security clearance.
