Job description

About the role:

As a member of the Swan Valley Visitor Centre team, the Tourism Officer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Visitor Centre front counter.  This includes guidance, support and assistance to other team members on shift.  The position is required to deliver an extremely high level of customer service providing comprehensive information, bookings, itinerary building and expert advice on local tourism products and services.

We currently have an opportunity for someone to join the team on a permanent part-time basis of 49 hours per fortnight. Please note, the successful candidate for this role will have the availability to work every Monday and weekend, and every second Friday.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivery of day-to-day operations of the Visitor Centre front counter
  • Deliver a high-quality customer service in line with City of Swan’s Service Standards and Customer Service Charter
  • Participate and work collaboratively with team members to deliver exemplary visitor servicing
  • Support, guide and assist team members through positive motivation
  • Supervise other front counter staff as required to deliver a leading level of service in line with Visitor Centre Service Standards
  • Assist in the training and development of new staff in Visitor Centre processes and procedures if required
  • Assist, coordinate or manage Visitor Centre projects as required
  • Work with the Visitor Centre Manager and Coordinator to maximise Visitor Centre promotional opportunities and to achieve sales and budget targets
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with local tourism industry bodies
  • Research and identify new tourism products and services to enhance existing Visitor Centre services
  • This position has no delegated authority and no authority to deal with the media
  • Accountable for:
    • Cash handling and balancing cash register takings
    • Monitoring and stocktaking of all souvenirs
    • Ensure the visitor centre is maintained in a safe, tidy and orderly manner

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Customer service experience and advanced customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise, set work priorities, meet deadlines and achieve work outcomes
  • Demonstrated computer skills including experience in booking, travel or tourism software
  • Current ‘C’ class drivers licence
  • Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate
  • Ability to work every Monday, every second Friday and weekends

The salary for this position will be from $67,388.08 to $80,071.41 per annum pro rata, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
