Job description

Are you interested in being a member of a Training and resource development team who are passionate about designing, developing and delivering high quality self-directed training resources and virtual, hybrid and face-to-face training sessions for Department of Education staff?

Information Technologies Branch (ITB) is looking for such an individual who is highly motivated and willing to think innovatively to create engaging, informative and effective training opportunities.

The role of Training and Development Officer is offered on a full-time temporary basis, until 30 June 2024, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role
In support of the department's Digital Strategy 2022-26, the Training and Development Officer supports our workforce to build their digital capability to thrive in a rapidly changing digital future by delivering quality assured and responsive training services to meet workforce needs and address the digital divide.
The Training and Development Officer designs, develops and delivers training to support the effective use of a range of ITB services and systems, including the department's:

  • Collaboration and communication suites and tools, including Office365 and Apple native apps;
  • Learning Management Ecosystem, including Canvas and Equella;
  • Student and school data management system, OneSchool;
  • Parent communication application, QParents; and
  • Cyber Safety and reputation management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Apply knowledge of adult learning and learning design principles and work collaboratively with the team, stakeholders and customers to design, develop and deliver training to various staff audiences across the state.
  • Control, monitor, and evaluate training content to ensure quality, consistency and accessibility of messages, and optimal use of instructional techniques and chosen media.
  • Facilitate adult learning using key adult learning concepts, theories and principles.
  • Contribute to the assessment of training needs through surveys, stakeholder interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers, instructors, or customer representatives; and analyse datasets and identify possible solutions or pathways to meet user needs.

About You:
The below items represent highly desirable qualities that the ideal candidate would possess:

  • Working knowledge of instructional design principles and frameworks, and experience in facilitation of adult learning.
  • Knowledge of or experience with one or more of the services or systems listed within the Your Role section.
  • Experience using a range of software, and ability to rapidly become fluent in new software, including:

o Microsoft Windows and Apple iOS, iPadOS and MacOS
o Computer based training software - Teams, Canvas
o Graphics or photo imaging software —Adobe Creative Cloud; Adobe Photoshop
o Video creation and editing software —Camtasia
o Web page creation and editing software - SharePoint Online
o Desktop publishing software - Microsoft Office suite

  • Certificate IV in Learning Design and Facilitation or Training and Assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace change and ambiguity and respond flexibly to changing expectations and requirements.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate in a clear, succinct and deliberate manner, adjusting the message so that it resonates with different stakeholders.
