Teekay are currently seeking Expressions of Interest from a suitably experienced and qualified Training Officer. As a Training Officer you will be expected to serve onboard one of our Australian based vessels, operating on the East Coast. You will report to the Vessel Master and be responsible for the delivery of training to Teekay and the Royal Australian Navy trainees. This will involve hands on practical training and the delivery of theory through one-on-one and classroom based training. You will also be expected to be proactive in seeking out opportunities to improve procedures, methodology and engage with the Client to further understand their needs. In addition to training, you will have the opportunity to fulfil the duties of a Deck Officer, supporting the Master during specialised operations.
The Training Officer reports directly to the Master. Their responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to -
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervising all embarked trainees and cadets (RAN and TKA).
- Deliver navigation and seamanship training to embarked trainees and cadets (RAN and TKA)
- In conjunction with the Master, facilitate and conduct dummy oral boards and exams for trainees
- In conjunction with the Master, manage and supervise TKA Deck Officers in completion and maintenance of various Competency Logs. This includes holding all logs for embarked Deck Officers
- Liaise with the Client and relevant shore authorities to ensure bridge and training resources are kept up to date
- Facilitate simulator training for RAN and TKA trainees
- Assist with development of TKA Fleet training procedures, materials and products
- Assist Master with the conduct of RAN specific activities such as aviation, specialist manouvres and exercises
- Act as liaison to RAN Shore Training Authorities and attend training seminars/conferences as necessary
- Conduct Bridge Watchkeeping as required by Vessel Master
- Act as Vessel Safety Officer as required
Key application criteria include:
- Hold or ability to maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance
- Australian Citizen
- Maintain a current Australian Passport and current AMSA Medical Clearance
- Undertake and maintain a Working with Children/ Working with Vulnerable People Check, if required by the specific vessel requirements
- Completed at least three years of sea time on an RAN, RN or RNZN Vessel
- Completed RAN, RN or RNZN Navigating Officer Course
- Experienced in the operation of RAN digital navigation systems
- Served as a RAN, RN or RNZN Navigating Officer
- Experienced in the conduct of RAN Aviation Operations
Preferred application criteria:
- Hold Qualifications to meet obligations under the International Convention on STCW for Seafarers, 1978 as amended (STCW2010) qualification level – Watchkeeper Deck Unlimited, or higher
- Have worked in a training environment, specialising in the delivery of Navigation and Seamanship training
