Job description

Are you seeking to gain professional experience and want to make a difference for the Tasmanian community? Why not apply for Treasury's Cadet Program! Treasury’s Cadet Program provides you with a valuable opportunity to study part-time while gaining hands-on practical and professional experience in a key government agency.  Experience shows that it’s a great way to start your career. You will be paid a full-time salary and receive paid time off work to attend lectures, tutorials and exams.

We are looking for motivated and talented people to join our Cadet Program as Assistant Research Officers (Cadet). Multiple positions are available. The Cadet Program:

  • is a great opportunity to build your personal and professional skills and experience while learning about the many areas of Treasury’s business, the Tasmanian State sector and how governments operate;
  • provides you with the opportunity to be directly involved in a range of issues relating to public policy, the economy, the State Budget, financial management, administration and regulatory frameworks; and
  • gives you a tailored learning and development program and access to other cadets, mentors and experienced professionals to support your future growth.

Why work for us?

Treasury works to improve the wellbeing of the Tasmanian community. As a Cadet you will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of working opportunities while also making a positive difference. We are a very well respected professional organisation that has a strong record of supporting, developing and valuing our cadets.

About the Cadet Program

Treasury’s Cadet Program is a great way to fast track your career and learn new skills.

While participating in the program you will work in a variety of business areas (generally moving to a different area of Treasury every 12 months). The time it takes you to complete your cadetship depends on how much University study you have completed on entry to the program, and any relevant previous work experience. The maximum time is 6 years on the program before being offered a permanent placement. You will receive paid time off work to attend lectures, tutorials, and exams, over and above normal leave entitlements.

The opportunity to join our program is not limited to a particular degree. We recognise the specific knowledge and skills provided through study in different disciplines together with the broader skills that are developed through work and life experiences are valuable to our organisation and the public service.
