Position Summary
The Project Manager reports to the URD Delivery Manager and is responsible for delivery of electrical distribution underground projects as part of our electrical utilities infrastructure and related services consultancy service. Projects include residential, commercial and industrial developments.
The Project Manager must ensure projects are constructed in accordance with utility and Australian standards and also achieve all requirements for network compliance. The Project Manager will work autonomously, and in conjunction with the broader Powerplant teams, under the direction of the URD Delivery Manager to deliver services as required by Powerplant’s clients.
Success in the Project Manager role will be achieved through high quality project management consulting services, extensive electrical industry expertise and as well as delivery of prompt and accurate communication. It will require proactive engagement with clients, networks and other stakeholders to identify and resolve issues impacting design and construction, and to ensure that client expectations are managed throughout the process.
The position will also support the overall business, our industry associates and the electricity distribution businesses to produce results that are responsive, accurate, and compliant with all standards and regulations.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure the successful delivery of customer-initiated projects from project initiation (design) through to commissioning, completion and closeout
- Support the growth of Powerplant’s project management consultancy business for existing and emerging services
- Manage the delivery of projects safely, within budget and to agreed timelines and quality
- Support the business to build and maintain a center of excellence for project management including project scoping, risk and issues management, governance structures, project reporting, project plans, estimates and forecasts and resource planning
- Support the works management function within Powerplant including works processes, systems, resource requirements and project methodologies
- Proactively manage customers and stakeholders such as utilities, developers, consultants and contractors
- Performing project related risk identification and mitigation plans
- Manage tendering processes of projects such as RFQ, evaluation and contract award
- Support and grow the delivery of new business opportunities and innovations
- Demonstrate commitment to Powerplant’s Business Values – People, Performance & Pride, and associated behaviors
- Be instrumental in establishing, monitoring, reporting and improving rates of compliance for completed works
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering and/or Project Management, or a related field
- Accredited PM2 and PMC with Victorian distribution businesses
- At least 5 years’ experience in the Victorian Electrical Industry in a relevant field
- At least 2 years’ experience delivering project management services as PM2 or PMC for distribution networks overhead and underground lines projects
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and principles
- Abilities to identify, respond to, and convert industry opportunities into business functions
- Proven ability to deliver outstanding results through the implementation of business improvement initiatives and innovation
- Experience managing complex projects and / or programs
- Ability to work constructively within a high performing team environment
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Be focused on delivering results safely, effectively, and economically
