This recruitment exercise is undertaken through the Veterans’ Employment Pathway (VetPaths), in which the Department of Veterans Affairs are the lead agency in driving. This veteran exclusive pathway provides an ongoing role in the federal public sector. VetPaths offers veterans a variety of supports throughout their first year of employment with the Pathway including:
  • formal learning and development
  • a mentor
  • an internal buddy
  • family inclusion events.
VetPaths has been designed to ensure long-term career success in the APS. A variety of positions are on offer within Service Australia and DVA where military experience is recognised as being beneficial to success in the role. Roles are available in most capital cities across Australia, with placements best matched to qualifications and skills.

Eligibility
  • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
  • Applicants must have a Certificate III or higher in Business/Government or equivalent. (See notes below)
Notes
This recruitment process is being used to fill ongoing positions.
Ex-serving members may be able to apply for a Certificate III or higher in Business/Government as recognised prior learning through the Defence RTO by contacting the ADF Transition & Civil Recognition service. Members having transitioned within 18 months will be considered for eligible qualifications. Veterans with an earlier discharge date will be considered on a case by case basis and require evidence of ongoing employment relating to certification. You can contact this service by writing to:
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
