About the Role
The Wellbeing, Health & Safety Principal will lead a proactive health and safety culture across Council, leading and participating in initiatives and strategies that contribute to employee well-being and safety. Develop and deliver activities consistent with the WHS strategy and legislation in order to reduce workplace injury and disease, and ensure Council employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors are free from hazards and risks.
Working within our The Liveability and Natural Assets Group in partnership with our community, contributes to a sustainable future and liveable Sunshine Coast by enhancing our natural environment and delivering quality places and infrastructure through policy, planning and design.
Key duties -
- Provide oversight and direction to the LaNA wellbeing, health and safety team through the provision of high-quality leadership, aligned to group and organisation values and culture, founded on strategic and tactical decision making.
- Establish safety improvement programs for LaNA to ensure best practice safety processes and outcomes, positioning Sunshine Coast Council at the forefront of contemporary WHS management ensuring the WHS system is continuously improved and applied to perform its intended purpose.
- Provide senior evidence based WHS thought leadership to LaNA WH&S team, senior and frontline leaders to day to day activities and projects to improve WHS engagement and implementation.
- Lead and ensure there is effective closure of compliance activities related to regulatory WHS requirements as measured through audits, incidents and other monitoring mechanisms
- Foster a culture of psychological safety, trust, open communication and learning that drives a constructive culture. Understand Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) and apply principles to WHS system improvement.
About you
Along with your passion for wellbeing, Health & Safety excellence, you will be highly experienced in WH&S with either a degree or substantial relevant industry experience.
For success in this role, you will have demonstrated ability to manage direct reports and various contractors to complete major projects in a large organisation as well as develop high quality content and ability to present with high level communication.
You will possess extensive experience as a safety professional in construction, heavy industry or mining environments with demonstrated ability to manage complex and sensitive investigations and lead WH&S initiatives.
