We drive workplace change through education, specialist advice and enforcement.As a WorkSafe Inspector/investigator, you will have a vital role in ensuring that workplaces are:

  • adopting appropriate risk management strategies to reduce workplace hazards that can cause multiple and repeat fatalities and serious injuries;
  • working to improve the management of psychosocial hazards;
  • protecting workers from health hazards such as harmful dusts;
  • consulting and involving workers in designing and implementing safe systems of work; and
  • complying with work health and safety laws.
With investigative skills and experience in a regulatory, safety or general industry, you will be responsible for:
  • carrying out workplace inspections and taking appropriate enforcement actions when health and safety laws are breached;
  • conducting investigations into workplace incidents or accidents;
  • assessing any possible breaches of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 or equivalent relevant legislation;
  • gathering evidence and preparing briefs to legal, making recommendations about prosecutions and presenting evidence in court; and
  • promoting and delivering work health and safety presentations, providing information to workplaces.

Demonstrated experience in the following:
  • Practical experience in working in a work, health and safety (WHS) role and having a sound understanding of WHS concepts and legislation and/or demonstrated experience in conducting investigations using recognised investigative methods, skills and associated standards.
  • Preparing reports following work health and safety incident investigations using recognised methods and developing information and advice to improve safety outcomes, and/or preparing briefs for legal proceedings.
  • Contributing positively to high performing investigative teams.
It would be advantageous to have:
  • Skills and experience in the application of work health and safety in industry; and
  • Demonstrated industry experience and ability to use your knowledge of industry-based workplace safety practices and issues to inform the investigative process.
