The Client
Live and work on an island in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Service providers include local Schools, Hospital and Aged Care, Emergency Services and other Government Agencies and Shopping.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and managing programs to achieve project objectives, which include community engagement and sustainable ongoing activities. The role is hands-on, on the ground, supported by Youth Engagement Officers.
You will be responsible for administering, overseeing, and coordinating three youth Programs funded by the NIAA namely:
  • Engage in Life and Learning Program
  • The On Country Program and,
  • The Youth Hub Program
You will also be responsible to ensure all KPIs as set out in the work delivery plans are met. Additionally, the Program Manager will be required to review, update and develop the activity work plans to ensure they are meeting the needs of Young People and achieving program outcomes.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Overseeing the day to day operations of Council’s Youth Activities Program including facility access, planning and coordination of all activities, services and programs.
  • Providing intensive Case Management support for young people, including interagency collaboration.
  • Supporting young people to access both formal and informal training to develop skills and qualifications to transition into further education and work opportunities.
  • Building community partnerships to ensure the development and implementation of existing and future youth- based activities.
  • Guiding and developing a small team of Youth Engagement Officers.
  • Identifying opportunities to promote outcomes of programs within the community.
  • Safely delivering diversionary activities for young people including movie nights, on country camps, sports and games, holiday programs and fishing excursions, in collaboration with existing service providers.
  • Working with stakeholders to develop local solutions to addressing factors that contribute to offending behaviour, AOD and Volatile Substance use.
  • Reporting and budgeting.

About You
To be considered for this role, you will require:
  • Demonstrated ability to connect, inspire and support young indigenous people.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in leading and managing teams in a complex youth service delivery setting.
  • Proven ability to create meaningful positive change in young people with complex needs, including a broad understanding of trauma informed care.
  • Previous experience training and mentoring indigenous youths to achieve work or education goals.
  • The ability to thrive, living and working on Mornington Island for a 2-year contract
  • Relevant degree in Social Work, Psychology, related human service discipline or significant experience successfully leading Indigenous Youth Activities Programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver service outcomes on time, within budget and in compliance with funding accreditation body requirements. Budget and financial management capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Working with Children Blue Card.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • National Police Clearance no older than three months.
  • Current, unrestricted C Class Drivers Licence.
Highly Desirable:
  • Demonstrated experience within a similar role.
  • Previous experience working within local Government.
  • Previous experience working and living in remote indigenous communities.
