Job description

The Waalitj Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that strives to be a leader in the provision of education, business and employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. We are looking for Youth Mentor to join our Justice team and make a positive impact in the lives of youth and lowering the rates of recidivism for our participants through mentoring and support.

The Opportunity:

Youth mentor is responsible for working individually with participants and support networks to assist them into employment and training opportunities. The role is primarily based within the Community as well as Banksia Hill Detention Centre by 1:1 mentoring with participants; delivering information sessions and showing practical skill sets.

The position is full time fixed term until 31 June 2025

About you:

You are passionate about supporting young adults achieve their goals. You understand the unique and diverse strengths and challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, with a willingness and capacity to listen and learn.

  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of mentoring support and assistance to participants with complex needs
  • Experience working with justice clients or within justice services/custodial settings is an advantage
  • Ability to gather data and complete reporting requirements to meet quality assurance and contractual obligations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with consortium partners and/or other community organisations and support services
  • Tradesperson background (desirable)
  • Horticultural background (desirable)

Essential Requirements:

  • Department of Justice and Police Clearances (or ability to obtain)
  • Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
  • C Class Driver's Licence
