We are looking for an energetic candidate, willing to make a positive change in young people’s journey with the ability to support and inspire, and offer young people an opportunity to learn new skills and achieve their life goals. The Youth Case Worker will support young people through assessment and case management to overcome challenges to barriers with the aim of assisting them to achieve the best possible outcome for them.
This role involves working with young people in both individual and group-based activities with an early intervention and prevention focus.
Essential Criteria
- A relevant diploma or higher with a specialisation in youth work
- An ACWA accredited diploma or higher with a specialisation in youth work
- A relevant qualification (non-specialised): A relevant qualification related to community services and comparable to AQF level 5 or higher.
- A thorough understanding of the contemporary issues facing young people and their families
- Previous experience in case management for young people with complex needs
- Strong knowledge and understanding of working with young people and their families from diverse backgrounds
- Proven ability to build rapport and motivate young people
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated competent practice regarding professional boundaries
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, DEX and program Logic
- Current Driver’s License Class C
Desirable Criteria
- At least two years’ experience working with disadvantaged young people
- Experience in developing and implementing group activities
- Knowledge and understanding of the Targeted Early Intervention program
- Knowledge of child protection legislation
- Current First Aid qualifications
- Proficiency in second language would be an advantage
Specific responsibilities
- Providing direction, guidance and role-modelling on appropriate behaviour in relation to communication skills and ability to challenge unsafe or inappropriate practices.
- Coordination of the Youth Drop in program and facilitating educational/ recreational activities.
- Assisting young people to establish and reach their educational, employment and life goals.
- Participate co-operatively in building a supportive and cohesive working environment as outlined within the RCC Code of Conduct.
- Working in partnership with other stakeholders and local agencies to deliver programs and activities, according to needs and in line with the set Outputs noted within the TEI Services Agreement.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions and other related meetings as required and instructed by the Manager.
- Assist the Manager in providing relevant data information including developing a list of Local inter agency networks with the contact details
- Establishment and management of strategic approach to engaging volunteers, in collaboration with TEI Team and RCC services.
- Demonstrating safe, effective and positive approaches to conflict resolution (i.e. without the use of violence).
- Regular data reporting through the Data Exchange system (DEX) and program logics and work plan to the Department of Communities and Justice within agreed time frame.
- Work with the TEI team and RCC GM to ensure data recorded in DEX and program logics and work plan within agreed time frame.
- Present a detailed report to the Services manager, General Manger and the Board of director about your reporting on Data Exchange system (DEX) and program logics and work plan.
- Fulfil RCC Policies and procedures and obligations.
This is a full time position for 38 hours per week with negotiable salary depending on experience and PBI salary packaging available.
This role is also dependent on recurring funding support by Department of Communities and Justice.
