Target 120 has been designed to work with at-risk and recidivist young people and their families to reduce offending behaviour. This is achieved through coordinated case management of all services, including across the government and non-government sector. We're not looking for an ordinary candidate - we need someone with a sound understanding of Kimberley culture and a passion for youth advocacy.

Key Duties
- Work under the supervision of the Program Manager, alongside the Department of Communities' Community Youth Officers (CYO) in a collaborative way to engage with the young people and their families as identified by the program
- Establish trusting and supportive relationships, providing family-based support, mentoring and assistance with program activity development and delivery
- Provide a point of contact and a source of information for youth and families at risk and who are participating in the program
- Link in with other services who can assist and build the support circles available to the family unit
- Provide responsive and flexible case management support to families and youth at risk who are participating on the Target 120 program
- Provide advocacy, support, informal counselling and preventative initiatives to families and young people to address identified issues affecting the family unit
- Develop culturally safe programs for young people that assist them to address issues contributing to offending behaviours
- Ensure a proactive service approach to ensure strong client - service relationship

Broome Youth and Families Hub is looking for an individual who can deliver intensive one-on-one case management. Our ideal candidate will be able to work with an energetic team, offering a service in which children and young people can participate in meaningful and impactful activities. The Youth Support Officer in the Reconnect Program will work with young people to tackle issues from homelessness to mental health concerns; they’ll also assist by providing guidance around education pathways and goal setting. For this position, we’re looking for someone with impressive mentoring skills. Someone who’s great at building and maintaining relationships. And someone who takes a strengths-based approach to their work with young people.
Key Duties
- Offer a service in which children and young people can participate in fun, meaningful and impactful activities
- Provide case management and family support so young people and their families can access support and follow up on issues such as: homelessness, substance abuse, disengagement in education and the community, family relationship breakdown, involvement with justice, mental health concerns
- Support young people to access community supports, interconnecting to programs, services and to create independence
- Promote and encourage youth participation in education, training and employment
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Child Protection Family Services Case Managers and other service providers, engaging as relevant to attain person-focused outcomes
Skills and Experience
We want you to be successful in your new role! This means you'll have:
- A Tertiary degree or Diploma qualification in a relevant field is preferred, however unqualified applicants with demonstrated significant relevant experience (minimum 1 year) and skills working with young people who may be at risk will be considered
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ability to work with Aboriginal young people, families and communities
- Demonstrated experience in engaging and building strong relationships with, and motivate, ‘at risk’ Aboriginal children and young people
- Ability to be innovative and flexible, work independently, demonstrate initiative, and work effectively under pressure
- Case management experience
- Extensive knowledge of issues affecting children and youth
- Understanding of community development principals
- Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and evaluating programs and/or activities
- Valid Driver's License
- Eligibility to obtain a Working With Children's Check
