Allygroup is seeking highly motivated Privacy Investigation Officers (APS5 - EL1) for an initial 3-month contract with 3 month extension, with a possibility of further extension with our high-profile Federal Government client. Candidates may be based in Canberra, Brisbane, or Newcastle. Full-time or part-time working arrangements available.
Privacy Investigations Officers advise on the agency’s compliance with this legislation and the policies and processes that support this compliance, through privacy advice work as well as the review and management of privacy incidents. Working under limited direction of senior staff, they exercise both initiative and judgement with decisions making, including assessments under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme in line with the Privacy Act 1988. These assessments are substantially dependent on judgement, skills and knowledge.
Duties may include some or all of the following:
- analyse, integrate and evaluate information to make decisions and provide recommendations for review by senior staff
- prepare correspondence of a complex nature and contribute to briefing papers, responses to external review bodies, and Ministerial responses for review by senior staff
- prepare draft written material including reports and corporate documentation for review by senior staff
- provide specialist advice and technical expertise to staff and stakeholders
- develop, support and maintain stakeholder relationships regarding information handling practices
- assist business areas with the resolution of escalated issues and referring matters as appropriate, including those relating to external review bodies, submitting such advice for review by senior staff, maintain and use information stored in databases, and contribute to reports
- facilitate the privacy compliance activities of business areas and check adherence with relevant procedures and legislation
- facilitate and development and implementation of improvements and privacy best practice in processes and procedures
- maintain and file records in accordance with information management processes and security requirements
- assist senior staff in the exercise of decisions appropriate to their role in accordance with legislation, guidelines, delegations and scope of authority
- support and mentor staff, including coaching and training to build knowledge and capability
- monitor and report on workloads, priorities and practice
- manage workloads for self and others, including work direction (Senior Privacy Investigations Officer only)
Must be:
- Lawyer (<2 years' experience)
- Graduate Lawyers
- Paralegal
- Admin non-legal with privacy experience
Requirements
Candidates who hold an Australian Government security clearance will be well-regarded.
Candidates must have experience with freedom of information.
