What you'll be doingThe Aboriginal Care Coordinator will perform a liaison role by supporting, guiding, and referring Aboriginal clients,
family members and carers to access timely and appropriate ISLHD services for cancer prevention and management. The position aims to improve access, equity, and health care for Aboriginal people with cancer, promoting patient centred care and a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, facilitating an approach in 'closing the gap' between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cancer outcomes. - Hold qualifications in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or other health related discipline and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated active involvement and 'lived experience' in Aboriginal communities, with a deep understanding and commitment to improving the health issues impacting Aboriginal communities.
- An understanding of Cancer Care provision, and the ability to guide Aboriginal people through the system in a culturally safe way.
- Demonstrated health care experience and sound leadership skills to facilitate effective and culturally appropriate education and training to ISLHD cancer services staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and confidence in negotiating with clinicians as part of the multidisciplinary team to advocate for best patient care.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication, word processing and email skills; with the ability to be self-directed and flexible, working across various sites, and managing competing priorities and tasks.
