We have an exciting opportunity for passionate and motivated individuals to join Civic Disability Services as Aboriginal Disability Support Worker.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Civic is recruiting Aboriginal Disability Support Workers for our existing sites located in Camden. Civic offers a 24/7 service to our clientele. That means you might work mornings, afternoons, evenings, Sleepovers and active nights mostly in shared accommodation environments. The hours vary, so you can work a range of hours between 14-74 per fortnight.
This opportunity is suitable for individuals with disability worker experience as well as aged-care/nursing backgrounds. If you are in your final years of study we also encourage you to apply! The clients will also need your support to get around, so a valid NSW driver’s license is essential!
ABOUT YOU
Aboriginality is a genuine requirement of this role. We are looking for a person who understands the issues faced daily by Aboriginal communities. The successful candidates would have prior work experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with complex needs.
Successful applicants will have the following:
- At least 1-2 years experience in disability, aged care, nursing or similar fields. A passion for working with people who have a disability is crucial.
- Experience supporting those with behaviours of concern and high complex needs (or the passion and desire to do so).
- Experience in providing care to high care clients (hoists, transfers, bed transfers).
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have been diagnosed mental health.
- Availability for day, evening and night shifts specifically sleepovers shifts.
- Ability to complete handover at conclusion of shifts.
- Ability to follow a cultural and care support plan to allow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients to live safely and independently in the community.
- Ability to follow organisational policies and procedures.
- Desirable: ability to take clients for swimming programs.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

- NDIS Worker Check (or be willing to obtain)
- Working With Children Check (or be willing to obtain)
- National Criminal History check
- Unrestricted NSW Drivers License
- First Aid Certificate (or be willing to obtain)
