Our client is a global insurance company protecting Australians and what's important to them for more than 20 years through their range of products. Due to growth we're currently seeking an Accountant to join their team in a full-time permanent capacity.
Within this role you will support the Finance team in the delivery of effective and efficient accounting practices through collection, analysis, and reporting on financial data.
The role:
- Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls, supporting external audits and internal financial reviews.
- Provide accurate financial data for tax filings, assisting in preparing tax returns and reconciling tax accounts.
- Identify areas for process improvement within the accounting function, propose solutions, and assist in implementing changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist in preparing financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in compliance with relevant accounting standards and company policies.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records by performing data entry, reconciling accounts, and updating general ledgers on a regular basis.
- Preparation of financial returns on monthly and quarterly basis as required.
- Providing back-up support to the payroll function.
- Assist with payment approvals and release of bank transactions.
- Assists with the review of daily transactional processing for completeness and accuracy.
- Responds to request for information from internal stakeholders including executive and operational Managers.
- Review accounting records, reporting to internal and external auditors.
- Support expense tracking and management processes, verifying expense claims, and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the budgeting and forecasting activities by providing accurate financial data and assisting in analysing budget variances.
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years practical experience
- Strong understanding of accounting and payroll systems.
- Minimum Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills.
- Familiarity with Australian accounting principles and standards and understanding of general accounting practices.
- Strong understanding of Tax Law in Particular GST, FBT, Withholding Tax, Payroll Tax and State Insurance Duty.
- Strong numerical aptitude with excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and data entry tasks.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions to support decision-making processes.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate and work well within a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
