This position plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional welfare, husbandry, and technical support to laboratory animals. Your responsibilities will encompass not only expert animal care and facility maintenance but also administrative duties within the facility. We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in animal handling and research support, coupled with the ability to uphold regulatory standards and provide leadership in training and supervision.Key responsibilities will include:Provide expert daily care to laboratory animals, ensuring both standard and complex husbandry tasks are carried out effectively.Maintain cleanliness and biosecurity of animal holding and laboratory areas, including the use of sterilizing equipment.Handle scheduled drugs, poisons, and infectious agents safely and appropriately, managing waste streams accordingly.Ensure precise record-keeping of operations and services, including database management and compliance documentation.This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), continuing (permanent) position. At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,396.47 - $86,029.78 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,553.87 - $100,654.84 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.About YouCompletion of a degree, diploma, or certificate in animal science or related fields, or equivalent relevant experience, including work in a PC2 certified animal containment facility.Demonstrated experience in cleaning responsibilities within a PC2 laboratory, including sterilizing equipment usage and waste management.Knowledge of relevant codes of practices for animal care and use in scientific research, including Animal Ethics and Biosafety standards.Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving to achieve positive outcomes.Proficient in using database software for record-keeping and management.Effective liaison skills with stakeholders and team members, including veterinary teams and contractors.Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills for advising and presenting information to staff.Ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and meet deadlines while maintaining flexibility across different facility areas.DesirableDemonstrated experience in basic animal procedures such as animal identification, substance delivery and collection of samples.Demonstrated experience in providing supervision and training of staff, students and researchers.Demonstrated experience in managing complex GM rodent colony management.Demonstrated experience in performing intermediate animal procedures such as injectable/gaseous anaesthesia and tissue harvests.In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
