Position Overview
The Applications Specialist is responsible for implementing, maintaining and supporting software applications to meet the operational and strategic needs of Soul Origin. The role involves a combination of technical expertise and business acumen to ensure that applications continue to operate effectively and are aligned with business requirements.
On a day-to-day basis the Applications Specialist will be supporting application end-users, updating application configuration and data to meet organisational needs, monitoring application performance to ensure applications are performing optimally and troubleshooting issues with data, configuration and infrastructure.
The Applications Specialist will have experience working with a broad range of technologies and the ability to quickly acquire new skills. The application suite is primarily Software as a Service (SaaS) applications with a small number of custom applications. Technologies used include Azure Function and Logic apps, Cosmos DB databases, SQL Server databases, data factories, virtual machines, and applications and scripts written in C# and Powershell. The Analyst will also use tools such as Postman, DevOps and GitHub to manage and troubleshoot the application suite. They will also be an Excel expert.
Responsibilities
- User Support - provide ongoing support to users, addressing questions, issues, and concerns related to the application. This involves troubleshooting problems and providing timely solutions.
- Application Configuration – collecting, collating, manipulating and entering the data and configuration information required to ensure applications support the Soul Origin business
- Deployment and Implementation - oversee the deployment of new applications or updates, ensuring that the rollout is smooth and minimally disruptive to users.
- Data Management – ensuring data availability to support streamlined master data management.
- Testing and Quality Assurance - participate in testing the software to ensure that it meets the specified requirements and functions as expected.
- Documentation - create and maintain documentation, including user manuals, training materials, and technical documentation, to assist users and support teams.
- Process Optimization - identify ways to optimize business processes, increasing efficiency and productivity.
- Change Management - help manage change within the organization by assisting users in adapting to new technologies and processes.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in an IT discipline
- At least 5 years’ experience in roles supporting business applications in a Microsoft environment
- Experience working with SQL Server databases and tools, including stored procedures, SSMS and SSRS. Knowledge of PowerBI would be an advantage.
- Experience working with and learning Azure technologies such as logic apps, data factories, function apps and Cosmos DB.
- Experience in a software development environment and exposure to tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub and Postman
- Experience writing code and scripts in a range of languages including C# and Powershell
- Demonstrated ability to learn new applications, technologies and practices
- Understanding of good cybersecurity and privacy practices
- Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with end-users, IT teams and software developers.
