Aboriginal Hostels Limited’s (AHL) vision is to improve the quality of life and opportunities for First Nations People through their national network of hostels.
AHL hostels are a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.
The Opportunity
With 42 hostels located nationwide, each day AHL provides a place to stay for 1,200 men, women and children.
In order to continue to make a positive impact on First Nations people and communities, there are over 300 AHL team members in a wide range of roles from working in the hostels themselves to the head office in Canberra.
This opportunity will see you provide secretariat support for the AHL Board and multiple committees including the Asset Management Committee, the investment Committee and the Information Management Committee.
The Role
The APS6 Governance Project Officer has a wide range of responsibilities including:
- Drafting Board and committee papers, briefs and correspondence
- Coordinating activities to support the Office of the CFO and Company Secretary
- Assisting with the delivery of corporate governance functions including internal audit, risk management, fraud control, legislative compliance and business continuity
People with a strong understanding of First Nations histories and cultures are well suited to this opportunity. You will need to be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with First Nations peoples.
You may come from a range of different backgrounds, including as an Executive Officer, Corporate Officer or Secretariat.
Previous experience working in the APS would be adventitious as an understanding of the governance and legislation for Commonwealth entities is desired.
You will also have the proven experience:
- Providing secretariat services and support for senior executive committees and/or governance boards
- Preparing a range of written materials
- Communicating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and building effective working relationships
- Working under limited direction in a small team
- Using online Board portal software platforms
Salary / Rate
This role is a fulltime, permanent opportunity and can be based in AHL’s offices in Canberra or Brisbane.
- $82,715 - $86,978 + 15.4% Super
- Pending the outcome of the AHL’s Enterprise Agreement, employees will receive salary increases
