You will be working on a policy project focused on Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs). MRAs negotiated between professional associations, accreditation bodies and regulators, streamline professional practice requirements between Australia and counterpart countries. Where MRAs are agreed it is easier for professionals to practise in each others’ jurisdictions based on their existing qualifications and licensing.
The role is a 6-month labour hire contract with 6-month extension. In a market where labour hire contracts are scarcer, this is a rare opportunity to secure one.The Role
The APS6 Legal Policy Officer is an external-facing role within the Section.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Work with the professional services accreditation, licensing and regulatory bodies to assist them in negotiating mutual recognition or similar arrangements with their overseas counterparts
- Assist in reviewing and analysing stakeholder feedback
- Undertake research and draft high quality papers and briefings to assist in negotiations with peak bodies to streamline the licensing or registration of professionals
- Establish and maintain professional relationships and consultative mechanisms with a broad range of stakeholders, including with professional services regulatory and licensing bodies
To be successful in this role, you must have a policy background in the APS, as well as a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
Legal experience or legal qualifications are highly desirable.
You will also have initiative and the ability to exercise good judgement. You’ll be competent in strategic thinking and effectively managing a consistent workload, setting priorities and achieving effective and timely outcomes against deadlines.
As a Policy Officer, it’s essential that you have highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
Salary / Rate- $60/hr – $75/hr + 11% super
