HorizonOne Recruitment is proud to be partnering with the Defence Finance Group (DFG) for the recruitment of an APS6 Project Support Officer. With a growing team of over 600 professionals spread across Australia, and significant offices in Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney, DFG is the largest finance function in the Commonwealth Government.
DFG has been undertaking an expansive reform journey to evolve the function as a trusted and professional business partner, delivering high-quality financial insights to inform decision-making across the Department of Defence.
DFG manages over $50 Billion in funding, which equates to a budget of over $100 million per day, with a huge variety of large complex projects running in parallel.

If you are currently a permanent APS staff member, you can be engaged on a permanent or temporary s26 transfer. Otherwise, you can be engaged on a 12-month non-ongoing contract basis.
The Role Your duties will include the following:
Executing moderate complexity tasks in procedural, operational, administrative, and business support within a team
Understanding and following relevant legislation, government decisions, and Defence policies
Managing information flow, setting priorities, and developing procedures
Communicating effectively with stakeholders on operational and administrative issues to achieve Defence objectives
Potentially lead and supervise some team members
The Ideal Person
You are a dynamic and proactive individual who thrives on organising and optimising their own tasks with a knack for making informed decisions within a set framework. You should be naturally inclined to seek out advice when faced with challenges, underpinning your strong foundation in administrative support. If you have a penchant for delving into research and analysis, you’ll find this role particularly rewarding.
Leadership is second nature to you; you find satisfaction in guiding and developing your team, especially in mentoring newcomers and enhancing their skills through effective coaching and hands-on training.
You are driven by a desire for clarity and precision, valuing a supportive environment that champions clear project directives and open communication. Your goal is to empower your team members, ensuring collective success through meticulous planning and dialogue.
Salary / Rate
$88,175 – $100,724 + 15.4% Super
12-month non-ongoing contract or permanent or temporary s26 transfer for current permanent APS staff members
