About the role
The Finance Operations division provides a key foundation to ensuring sound financial decision making by AEMO leadership and is critical to AEMO maintaining strong support from stakeholders for its mission by ensuring the robustness of information underpinning revenue, cost management and funding requests.
The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for providing support to the Senior Financial Accountant and Manager of Accounting Operations to maintain a full trial balance. Key areas of focus will be on balance sheet reconciliations and month end reporting requirements. Relationships will be maintained between intercompany and project teams, alongside providing support to the wider finance team as required.
What you will be doing
- Prepare month-end accounting requirements within timetable, prepayments, journals, and consolidated entries
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Provide support to the Senior Financial Accountant
- Maintain knowledge of key financial controls and governance
- Create and maintain process and procedure documentation
- P&L and BS review by segment and department
- Participate in and drive continuous improvement of month-end accounting processes to maximise accuracy and timeliness
- Act as one of the key points of contact for finance-related activities. This includes building a good rapport with relevant staff and understanding the key AEMO financial policies and procedures
What you will bring to the role
- Degree in Business Management, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related field or qualified through experience advantageous
- Solid knowledge in Finance, Accounting or Bookkeeping desirable
- Self-starter with a strong desire to learn and develop
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Keen interest in automation, data, and systems advantageous
- Flexibility and adaptability within the role
